Oregon Football Fall Camp: Hitting In Practice Should Translate Into The Season
Oregon Football is hitting it pretty hard in Fall Camp and hoping for good things this Fall because of it.
Last season, the Oregon Ducks Defense was terrible, among the worst in the Pac-12 and in the country. Of course scheme is an important key and with Defensive Coordinator Jim Leavitt returning Oregon back to the 3-4 Defense, the product on the field could be vastly improved.
On Thursday Head Coach Willie Taggart talked about the importance of not just going through the motions, but also said the team was hitting, and from watching it seems pretty hard in some cases. Taggart spoke about the importance, “We hit in practice, we hit almost every play. I think you have to….we hit and guys feel it. I think you have to do it. We do hit in every practice.”
It’s not just the Defense doing the hitting, but the Offense is too. One player is using his ability to work on his blocking. Running Back Royce Freeman has been spending time with the Offensive Line in certain drills, and has also been in team meetings with the O-Line throughout Fall Camp.
His position is being looked at as an extension of the Line and in knowing their calls, it will help him to use his ability in the right spot, whether it is running or blocking. Freeman also spent part of Spring Practice working with the Offensive Line.
