Oregon Ducks Closer Kenyon Yovan has been putting in the work this summer and it is starting to payoff.

The Oregon Ducks knew when Yovan took the field last season that they were likely to  get a Save, but the season came to an end without a chance to reach the postseason. This summer, along with some of his teammates, Kenyon Yovan is spending time working on his game with an amateur baseball team.

Yovan is with the Rochester Honkers and on Wednesday hit a double followed by an eight inning gem on Thursday night in a big win. With Freshman talent coming to the Oregon Ducks in 2018, the team may ask Yovan to take on a Starters role depending on how the preseason plays out for George Horton and Company.

If that is the case, Yovan took a big step on Thursday, throwing eight innings, striking out six and giving up just one run. Rochester has won four of their last five games and have put up 36 runs in those contests. Yovan has shown plenty of flash finishing out games for the Oregon Ducks.

He is no stranger to putting in extra work. In 2016 he played for a club team before even setting foot at PK Park. Yovan was a member of the  Cowlitz Black Bears and was named first team all-league as a utility player. He had 31 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched, but with the bat hit .268 with two home runs, two doubles and 20 RBI’s.

With the incoming class, it is not yet known where Kenyon Yovan will play in 2017, but I expect he will be on the mound for the Oregon Ducks.
