Oregon Football: Redshirting Freshman Is A Thing Of The Past
Oregon Football under Willie Taggart will bring a change to one specific ritual that is a big problem in College Football.
The preparation of young talent for the future has been going on for a very long time. Redshirting has typically been reserved for players who weren’t quite ready to play, but with the number of top recruits that Oregon Football has in the fold this season, those ‘redshirts’ will be burned likely right off the bat in some cases.
Last season, it was Troy Dye who played as a Freshman, then under Mark Helfrich. Now, all the rules go out the window, and why not? Taggart wants to win, “I haven’t thought about redshirting anybody right now. We’ve got some pretty good Freshman. If they can help our football team in any kind of capacity then we’re going to play them. There is no intention on redshirting anybody right now.”
The Oregon Head Coach did key in on one area that could see an Underclassmen on the field, “I think after the end of this week we’ll have a better idea of where we want to go. I’ve been impressed with a lot of Freshman. I think if anything it’s the guys up front on the O-Line.”
As far as the unit that he was most impressed with into three weeks of Fall Camp, the Oregon Defense seems more vocal and they are hitting hard, “The communication of the guys..it’s important they communicate on all ends. We try to play the music as loud as we can so they can use their big boy voice to make sure everyone understands whats going on.”
