Oregon Football: First Depth Chart Of 2017 Highlights Freshman Talent
Football is back and on Monday, Oregon Football released their first depth chart of the season for the game against Southern Utah.
One thing stood out immediately. Throughout there are 12 Freshman looking to make an impact early in the season. Key players like Ty and Taj Griffin are recovering from injuries suffered in camp and will likely not play Week 1.
Key positions are the same as last season with Justin Herbert and newly named Captains Royce Freeman and Henry Mondeux Starters. There is depth at Wide Receiver and there are three separate groups for Wideouts including Freshman Johnny Johnson listed as a Starter along with Charles Nelson and Dillon Mitchell. One area that Oregon could have a concern this season is at Tight End where Jacob Breeland will Start.
Charles Nelson has also won the battle and will be the kick and punt returner against the Thunderbirds. On Defense, the team has shifted back to the 3-4 Scheme and again there are several Freshman to take note of.
First, Thomas Graham Jr. has earned a starting position at Cornerback. Jordan Scott has made a big impact in both Spring and Fall Camp and should get the Start at Nose Tackle. Troy Dye with the shift of the Defense is now playing inside in the 3-4 and should settle in nicely as he and Jalen Jelks bring experience to the Defensive Line.
Oregon also keeps experience at Running Back with Tony Brooks-James and Kani Benoit as second string options to backup Freeman. One other note, Kicker Adam Stack will be second string to Aiden Schneider for Field Goals.
