The Pac-12 Conference announced on Wednesday ways it plans to help shorten the length of football games.

The Conference of Champions will hope to accomplish getting fans home faster this year. This, of course, sometimes cannot be helped. If games go into overtime for example, but the Pac-12 is trying to remedy a probem that seems to be getting larger every year. The length of games is too long.

What do they plan to do? First they are looking at shortening games by making breaks shorter between each quarter. There is also an ‘experimental’ plan in place to shorten Halftime during certain Non-Conference

games. The break between halves will lose five minutes and be a 15:00 period.

When working on implementing these plans, it always helps to have your own Network as a test subject, and the Pac-12 plans to do just that. The windows for broadcast will also be adjusted closer to the kickoff time for the game creating less of lag for a 3:05pm kickoff for a 3:00pm game.

The experimental ‘pilot’ program will be evaluated at the conclusion of the 2017 season. As it stands now, the game against Southern Utah will have a standard 20 minute halftime. An email to the University of Oregon did not receive an immediate response.
