There were two NFL-caliber quarterbacks competing on Saturday as Justin Herbert and the Ducks took on Josh Allen and the Cowboys. One of them stood above the rest.

Before they were leading college football offenses, both Josh Allen and Jusin Herbert found themselves playing high school football without much attention from colleges.

Allen, who came from Reedley, CA, completed his high school career without any offers from FBS programs. He ended up at Reedley College before being discovered by Wyoming.

For Herbert, despite being a three-star prospect, his only FBS offer came from the school right in his backyard.

That’s the only one he needed, as he committed to the Ducks shortly after.

Fast forward to now, and both overlooked quarterback prospects had a chance to shine on a national stage.

Scouts from over 20 NFL teams traveled all the way up to Laramie, Wyoming to see if Allen was the real deal.

While they were all in attendance to see the main attraction in Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen, they might have been surprised to see that the better quarterback performance came from the other sideline.

In a matchup against a national brand and a power-5 team, Allen missed an opportunity to shine.

Instead, he had a night to forget.

Against a defense that has been suspect in past years, Allen could get almost nothing done against the Ducks.

Projected to be a top-10 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, he finished the night completing only 37% of his passes for 64 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.

Instead, the scouts could turn their attention to the signal caller on the other side of the field, as Justin Herbert had an opportunity to show his skills.

After his impressive performance last week against Nebraska, where he threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns, Herbert started to gain the attention from the media and NFL scouts alike

In front of a crowd of NFL scouts, and in a hostile road environment, Herbert did very little to deter that interest.

Herbert, a sophomore, once again ran the potent Oregon offense to 42 points in the first half. He added a passing and rushing touchdown to what was an effective night.

After Wyoming capitalized on fumbles by both Herbert and wide receiver/punt returner Charles Nelson, Wyoming only trailed 14-10. Herbert then lead the Oregon offense to 28 straight second quarter points to put the game out of reach.

There was little threat of a comeback as Allen and the Cowboys offense could never get anything going.

All of the headlines this offseason surrounded Allen, who almost declared for the NFL draft after last season.

Leading up to this game, many thought that he would show out against the Ducks

"While Allen still might be a high draft pick come April, NFL scouts left Laramie more impressed with the Ducks  signal caller."

Oregon Football takes their 3-0 record on the road again next week at Arizona State. (7:30pm PT, Pac-12 Network)
