Quarterback Marcus Mariota will have some battles this season, but he has the Tennessee Titans off to a 2-1 start after a 33-27 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

The former Oregon Football Quarterback took his lumps against Seattle, including what was clearly an out of bounds hit by Richard Sherman. On the play there were four personal fouls as his teammates came to his aid.  It didn’t do the Sherman much good other than for his own satisfaction. The Seahawks lost the game.

Over the last few seasons, Mariota has had the NFC’s number. Since he has been with the Titans he has thrown 20 touchdowns to just 3 interceptions against NFC Opponents. Mariota was 20 for 32 with 225 yards and two scores on Sunday. Doing the work against a Defensive Line that was in the Super Bowl just a few years ago, is impressive. The Tennessee Offensive Line did their homework and did a solid job protecting their quarterback in the field of play.

The Tennessee Titans now face their second Divisional Game of the season on the road against JJ Watt and the Houston Texans. Houston was able to stay with New England last week until the final few minutes with Deshaun Watson leading the charge.

Houston and Tennessee could be an interesting battle on Sunday with the youth and speed of Watson vs the experience and speed of Mariota. I expect JJ Watt will have a say in the outcome as well. The Titans visit the Texans on Sunday at 10am Pacific Time. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
