Friday night saw a thriller in Pullman, Washington as the Cougars held on in the end to beat the USC Trojans 30-27.
Washington State was prepared from the start. The Cougars Defense swarmed Sam Darnold most of the night limiting him on third down conversions. On the ones he did complete, he made them count for key first downs. On the night it was in the Cougars court holding the Trojans to just 2 for 11 on third down conversions while completing 8 of 18 themselves.
Luke Falk had a big night throwing for two touchdowns. He threw for 340 yards. The records also fell for Falk, who passed Sean Mannion for most completions. He is now tied with Marcus Mariota for second in touchdown passes with 105.
Last season, USC Quarterback Sam Darnold threw a total of nine interceptions leading the team to the Rose Bowl. This season has not started according to script. After the loss to Washington State, Darnold had eight interceptions on the season, including one in the final minutes of the game sealing the win for the Cougars.
The game should have turned some heads toward Pullman with it being in the Spotlight on a Friday night. The road gets more challenging for the Cougars with a trip to Autzen Stadium next week. The game time will be announced on Sunday, but I expect we will see another game under the lights.
Oregon Football now faces Cal where a win could go a lot further this season and momentum entering next week may be at a season high.
