Oregon Football faces a Spread the Ball, Air It Out Offense in Washington State, which should test the Ducks Defense on Saturday.
The Washington State Cougars are led by Mike Leach, one of the top Offensive minds in all of College Football. Leach has perfected the Spread Offense and his teams have relied more on going through the air than on the ground. That trend continues this season.
Washington and Washington State are the lone schools in the Pac-12 North that remain undefeated. Following last week’s win over the USC Trojans, the Cougars come into Autzen ranked 11th in the Associated Press poll. Quarterback Luke Falk has been a passing machine putting up over 1800 yards in five games. The Cougars are averaging 80 yards on the ground, but are the second best passing team in the country.
WSU has used 13 Wide Receivers so far this season. The Player to Watch is Tavares Martin Jr who has close to 100 yards per game and 7 touchdowns on the season. Renard Bell is averaging 20 yards per catch and both could make it a very long night for the Oregon Secondary which should be up for the challenge under Jim Leavitt.
The Cougars are looking for the fourth straight win over Oregon Football.
Despite putting up the points on Offense, Special Teams is also a key for the Cougars. Washington State Kicker Erik Powell has not missed a field goal this season, and could play a key role on Saturday. He has two kicks beyond 40 yards on the season.
