Marcus Mariota Leads Tennessee Titans To Long Awaited Win Over Indianapolis
Monday Night Football saw Marcus Mariota lead the Tennessee Titans in a 36-22 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
The win not only marked the return of Mariota to the Starting Quarterback position, but also put the Titans in a first place tie in a weak AFC South Division. The game started slow with field goals before the former Oregon Quarterback found his footing and his Wide Receivers in the second half. Tennessee used a power run game led by DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry. Henry had a highlight reel touchdown in the final minute of the game to seal the win for the Titans.
It was the first win for Tennessee over Indianapolis in 11 tries. The Colts played without Quarterback Andrew Luck who is still recovering and practicing following surgery in January. Mariota had a 300 yard passing game throwing for a touchdown and in interception.
Ryan Succop also put on a show with a perfect 5 for 5 on Field Goal Attempts giving Tennessee 15 points off his leg. It set an NFL Record for most consecutive field goals inside the 50 yard line. Before Mariota found his rhythm in the second half, Succop kept the Titans in the game in the first half.
The victory puts Tennessee in control in the AFC South with a schedule ahead of them that is easier than what was behind. The Titans head to Cleveland this week to take on the 0-6 Browns. They then face the Bengals and Ravens at home before bigger challenges on the road against Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.
