Oregon Football: Ducks Bringing Along Braxton Burmeister At The Right Pace
Quarterback Braxton Burmeister has had a rough beginning to his Oregon Football career and Coaches are Optimistic for his future.
Oregon Football has had a rough two weeks without Quarterback Justin Herbert. On Sunday and Monday, the Ducks Sophomore QB was back on the Practice Fields of the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex working out with his teammates, but he likely won’t be back in the lineup this week. Head Coach Willie Taggart said he knows his Quarterback is anxious to return, “I know he’s been drinking his milk. I’m sure he’ll get back quicker than we think. I was sitting with him at dinner the other night he had two Vitamin D carts right there.”
Backup Braxton Burmeister has struggled the last two weeks, but he is gaining valuable experience as the Starter. He is having more success with his legs, but penalties have been stopping the forward momentum of the Offense.
"I think he’ll continue to get better as we go. The big reason he’s going to get better we as coaches are going to help him get better.Willie Taggart on the Development of Quarterback Braxton Burmeister."
The approach changes when there is a new player at Quarterback. Co-Offensive Coordinator Mario Cristobal said it comes down to details, “ You have to recognize what his(Burmeister) talents are, what he feels comfortable with, but not to comfortable. There’s a line there somewhere and we’re going to find that line to put us in the best position.”
The challenge ahead is with a team that NEEDS a win. Crisobal breaks down the UCLA Defensive Line, “They’re Athletic. Typical team from Southern California. Explosive. They have a lot of bodies and have had some really good moments….Good Football Team”
According to the Depth Chart released on Tuesday, Herbert will not be available on Saturday with Burmeister and Senior Taylor Alie battling for the (OR) Start vs the Bruins.
