Oregon Football: Ducks Show Off Big Play Ability In Win vs Utah Utes
The Oregon Ducks showed off some big play ability that could turn the season around.
Oregon Football played a complete game on Saturday afternoon against Utah. Quarterback Braxton Burmeister was perfect in the first half in throwing the ball and Ugo Amadi and Charles Nelson came up with memorable plays that changed momentum in a needed win.
Of course, the Oregon Running Game also gashed Utah for 347 yards on the ground. Both Tony Brooks-James and Royce Freeman had 100+ yards on the ground. Brroks-James added two touchdowns from 20+ yards out in the second half, but the memorable plays were big.
While former Wide Receiver Darren Carrington was held out of the end zone, he did get his yards ending the game with 130 yards off 9 catches. The play that will be remembered was by Ugo Amadi, who stripped Carrington as he went to the ground, picked up the ball and put six on the board for Oregon Football. On the other end, Arrion Springs played well. He kept the ball out of the hands of Carrington in the end zone, twice on one drive on third and fourth down.
The Oregon Duck Got Into The Act!
On the field we have not seen much of the way of trickery from Willie Taggart, until Saturday. Braxton Burmeister watched as a false start penalty stalled the drive, but Taggart called the same play again. The Freshman QB handed the ball to Charles Nelson who stumbled, stepped up and threw the ball toward the end zone where it found the hands of Jacob Breeland who caught it at the highest point over defenders for a touchdown.
It was nice to see a team pull off big play ability without their usual Starting Quarterback in Justin Herbert. Marcus Mariota was also watching from the sideline and likely enjoyed what he saw from his former teamates. I do know that this week, Oregon will again need to find some big plays against Washington on the road.
