Oregon Ducks Sophomore Sabrina Ionescu has been recognized as one of the top point guards in the country to start the 2017 season.
Last season, the Oregon Women’s Basketball team went farther than they ever had in their history meeting Connecticut in the NCAA Tournament Elite 8. This season the respect is there from the start with a Top 15 Ranking to start the season and one of the best players in the country beginning her Sophomore season under Head Coach Kelly Graves.
Ionescu is working on becoming a household name not just in Oregon, but throughout the Nation. Last week she spent Thursday touring and visiting with reporters at ESPN in preparation for the upcoming season. For Oregon, most of the scoring talent returns including Maite Cazorla, Justine Hall, and Lexi Bando, but it will be Ionescu who runs the point for the Oregon Ducks.
Earlier this week she was named to both the Nancy Lieberman Watch List, for best Point Guard.
Senior Lexi Bando was one of 20 student-athletes named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale inaugural watch list for the Nation’s Best Point Guard. The Pac-12 Conference has just three on the Watch List including Brittany McPhee from Stanford and Kennedy Burke from the UCLA Bruins.
Last season as a Freshman, Ionescu had four triple-doubles, and averaging 14.6 points and 6 rebounds per game. She hit 39 percent from the floor and 42 percent from three-point range.
