Willie Taggart has a history of ‘Coach Speak’ when he disagrees with media questions.
Oregon Head Coach Willie Taggart spoke with the media on Friday concerning coaching rumors but reiterated he was still the Ducks Head Coach as the team prepares for a bowl game. Oregon started practice yesterday at the Moshofsky Center getting ready for their next opponent and a chance to get to double their wins from last season and finish 8-5.
Willie Taggart’s end of season history has been well documented. He has been with three teams to qualify for bowl games. Taggart has only coached on one of them. ONE. Taggart is a fixer. He fixes problems. His energy is infectious, but he doesn’t seem to stick around for too long. He has now turned an Oregon Football program in the right direction after a 4-8 season last year and has the right to consider any options that come his way.
Taggart has a contract extension waiting for his signature from the University of Oregon, but the reports all week are focused on Florida State. He opened his press conference Friday by saying he would not address any coaching rumors, but the media asked anyway. After addressing a few questions, his behavior changed to talking about how current players have performed this season. He shouted his praise drowning out any media members.
Following the Press Conference, video surfaced from when Taggart was with Western Kentucky and South Florida rumors were heating up. His persona is the same. He talks about his players then, again almost as if to say, I’m done with your questions, I’m going to just ramble about my team.
Despite the similarities in his behavior, I still think he remains at Oregon. Why would you spend the better part of the last two weeks recruiting around the West Coast, making O’s with recruits and talking up parents if your intent all along is to leave the Ducks?

The rumors will continue for a while. The Ducks next media availability is set for Sunday for the Bowl Game announcement.
