The College Football Job Market has several opening and Mark Helfrich has been in the early conversation.

Just over a year ago Mark Helfrich was fired after a 4-8 season. On Tuesday, his name started to appear across social media as a potential candidate at Texas, as a Coordinator. Arizona fired Head Coach Rich Rodriguez the same day and it now appears that Helfrich has been connected to two openings.

The move is clearly in the former Oregon Coaches court. He is still accepting money from his buyout from the Ducks and if he accepts another position, some or all of that money goes away. Oregon is still paying Helfrich to stay away from Oregon. A move to Arizona would be intriguing with Chip Kelly at UCLA.

With the start of the new year on Monday, the NCAA Bylaw of allowing a 10th Assistant Coach went into effect. Texas Head Coach Tom Herrman may be looking to add an Offensive Coordinator and Helfrich could be at the top of the list. Helfrich had 37 wins during his three seasons at Oregon, which makes him an option for Arizona.

Arizona Athletic Director Dave Heeke has a connection with the Ducks. He started his career with the Oregon Athletic Department according to 247Sports. He knows Helfrich and the move would also ease or clear the ‘buyout’ Oregon is still paying over the next two seasons for their former Head Coach.

In Helfrich’s final season in Eugene, the Oregon Ducks went 4-8 which led to the hiring of Willie Taggart who turned around the culture of Oregon Football before he left for Florida State.
