Oregon Ducks Defend The House, Top Oregon State In Civil War

Oregon dominated on Defense from the start, limiting Oregon State and getting the win, 75-63.

The Oregon Ducks Women’s Basketball team was looking to play better than they did on Friday night against Oregon State in Corvallis. That game went to Overtime and was a loss for the Ducks. Sabrina Ionescu had 35 points and sent to game into Overtime with a last-second shot at the end of regulation. This time around the game was at Matthew Knight Arena.

Oregon State would strike first with a three-pointer. The Ducks started the game 0 for 4 from the floor. Despite a rough start, Oregon forced five Beaver turnovers in the opening minutes to take a 6-5 lead on OSU. The Ducks led 12-7 after the first quarter.

Satou Sabally opened the second quarter with back to back three-pointers helping put the Ducks up 22-9 and forcing an Oregon State timeout. To that point the Oregon Defense was holding Oregon State to 27 percent from the floor and 20 percent from three-point range. Oregon continued to find the basket going on a 7-0 streak and Sabally again hit a three-pointer with just under 4 minutes left in the second quarter. Oregon was also finding rebounds. With three minutes left in the second quarter, Oregon led 33-14.

Ruthy Hebard picked up two quick fouls before the end of the second quarter. The Oregon Ducks were on an 18-2 run with 1:27 left in the first half leading 40-16. Oregon was hitting 50 percent from the floor in the first two quarters in front of the second largest crowd at Matthew Knight Arena for a Women’s Basketball game. OSU finished the second quarter 0 for 7 from the floor as Oregon took a 40-18 lead into the locker room.

The third quarter started more even with both teams scoring 12 points with just over 4 minutes left. OSU pulled within 16 entering the 4th Quarter. The Beavers finished the quarter on an 8-0 run while Oregon found a scoring drought allowing Oregon State back in the game.

Oregon held on in the end for a 75-63 win. Sabrina Ionescu finished with a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists. Satou Sabally was the Player of the Game shooting 9 of 15 from the floor and 3 of 7 from beyond the arc. The Ducks finished with 19 assists vs Oregon State evening the season series at one game apiece.
