Philadelphia Eagles Running Back LeGarrette Blount led the way for a Super Bowl Win.

Former Oregon Duck LeGarrette Blount has a new title – Super Bowl Champion. Blount had the second touchdown of the game against the New England Patriots that came down to the final play and a desperate 4th down throw from Tom Brady that fell to the ground sealing the Eagles first Super Bowl win.

Safety Patrick Chung left the game late under concussion protocol and Wide Receiver Brandon Cooks also suffered the same fate for New England earlier in the game.

Running Back LeGarrette Blount and Defensive End Chris Long are in unique company together. They are the first duo to win a Super Bowl with one team and defeat the same team in the Super Bowl the following season.

For Philadelphia, it was a season without a 1000 yard rusher or receiver to win the big game. The Eagles Rushing Attack needed a big bruising back and that is exactly the role that Blount played this season in Philadelphia. The touchdown against New England was just his third score of the season with the other two coming in the NFL Playoffs.

Blount was used in short yardage situation and after looking back it is clear now that Philly had the advantage a good chunk of the time when he was handed the ball. He kept the clock moving and the ball pushing for the next first down.

The Philadelphia Defense held New England to 113 yards on the ground. The Eagles Offense led the way with 143, but 90 came from LeGarrette Blount, along with six points.

New England’s lone turnover cost them the game as Brandon Graham sacked Tom Brady in the final minutes forcing a fumble and an Eagles recovery. I expect that Philly and New England may meet in the NFL Preseason in 2018 as seems to be a custom with the two teams.

It may have more than just a Preseason feel for the Patriots.
