The Oregon Ducks Baseball team picked up their first win of the season on Friday thanks in part to Jakob Goldfarb at the plate.

Oregon Baseball ended last season with a thud missing the NCAA Tournament with questions about George Horton returning in 2018. In the offseason, Horton signed a new contract with the Oregon Ducks and the team earned their first win of the season on Friday in Las Vegas at the Marucci Desert Classic..

Starting Pitcher Matt Mercer will begin the season as the Friday Starter filling the big shoes left by David Peterson. Loyola Marymount struck first but they did not count on Jakob Goldfarb. The Oregon Junior missed all of last season with a toe injury after a solid Spring Training. He came through on Friday with a career-high 5 RBI’s to lead Oregon to a 6-1 win over LMU.

Mercer gave up a run on three hits throwing 7 1/3 innings in his first career start. A solid outing. The Oregon Bullpen closed out the game with Parker Kelly finishing off the seventh and Closer Kenyon Yovan throwing the final two innings.

Freshman Jonny DeLuca and Evan Williams started in the outfield for the Oregon Ducks and DeLuca made it count going 2 for 4 with a home run. Evans showed off his speed in the sixth making a diving catch for an out. Oregon will need to lead on youth this season, specifically in the outfield.
