Oregon Ducks Open Tenth Season At PK Park, Host Seattle
The Oregon Ducks(4-2) begin their first homestand of the season on Tuesday hosting Seattle.
Head Coach George Horton and the Oregon Ducks are 4-2 with an early season challenge coming later this week. The Ducks first host Seattle for one game to open the 2018 Home Slate at PK Park on Tuesday before hosting Florida Atlantic and UC Davis.
Jakob Goldfarb is making an early-season impact after missing last season with a foot injury. He has played in all six games and second on the team in hitting behind Gabe Matthews. Goldfarb has 4 runs, 7 hits, 3 home runs and has 7 RBI’s through the Ducks first six games. He has experience in the outfield and should have a big impact over the Ducks homestand.
Freshman Jonny DeLuca is another Oregon Duck to watch. He has used his legs in the outfield for several big plays including a diving catch early in the season. DeLuca and Evan Williams have started their careers with Oregon together starting the first six games of the season.
Seattle enters the matchup at 5-3. Sean Sutton and Austin Lively lead the team in double-digit hits respectively. Sutton leads the team with 12 hits, 3 doubles and 8 RBI’s. As a team, Seattle has not found the long ball much through eight games hitting just two home runs. Seattle is stronger on the mound limiting opponents to a .235 batting average while hitting at a .270 clip as a team.
For Horton and the Ducks, midweek games are typically an opportunity for younger players. Expect to see Pitchers earning their first playing time of the season on Tuesday.
