After helping the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl last season, LeGarrette Blount his moving onto a bigger project.
LeGarrette Blount is becoming a Journeyman Running Back in the National Football League. After helping the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl Win over the New England Patriots, his former team, the former Duck signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions on Friday.
Last season, Blount was used to his talent level in Philadelphia, entering the game mostly on short yardage situations, but he often showed how fast he was in the open field as tacklers missed him as he crossed the line of scrimmage and burst into the secondary. In Super Bowl 52 he had 90 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
Now with his seventh new team in eight NFL Seasons, Blount will look to help solidify a Detroit Lions Running Game that ranked last in the league in yards per game and yards per carry this past season.
We all know that Running Backs age differently in the NFL compared to other position players. At 31, Blount should have enough left in the tank to start the groundwork needed for part of the Offense in Detroit to get some traction and allow Matthew Stafford time to find other Offensive Weapons. Blount can also block and catch out of the backfield.
Last season, the former Oregon Duck had 766 yards on the ground and averaged just over 4 yards per play. He also brings Playoff and Super Bowl Experience with both Philadelphia and New England.
