The Oregon Ducks showed their youth and missed opportunities over the weekend at Stanford.

Kenyon Yovan made sure the three-game series at Stanford got off to a good start. The Sophomore in just his second start threw six innings allowing three hits and a walk. He struck out nine. Last week Yovan picked up a win against Cal at PK Park and despite it being the only win against the third-ranked Cardinal over the weekend, it was another positive to build on for a young Oregon team.

The final two games of the weekend did not go as well. After picking up 10 hits against Stanford’s Best Pitcher in Tristan Beck. Saturday saw a dominant start on the mound, by Stanford. After picking up an early unearned run, the Oregon Ducks looked to shut down the Stanford Offense, but several Defensive miscues allowed the Cardinal to come back and win 5-1.

Daniel Pazlaff, who usually plays the infield saw a start in the outfield for the first time in 161 games. He was tested in the third inning and the outcome was not in Oregon’s favor. Stanford’s Beau Branton hit a ball to left that fell just in front of Patzlaff allowing a run to score. Matt Mercer took his second loss of the season.

In the series finale on Sunday, the Oregon Ducks turned to Freshman Kolby Summers who threw six innings giving up one run over six innings. However, the Oregon Offense was stagnant in a 4-0 loss. Oregon was 4 for 22 with runners on base and just 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position.

Kyle Kasser remained hot at the plate for Oregon going 3 for 4 on Saturday and 7 for 13 for the series at Stanford.
