Oregon Ducks Sweep Portland State as Miranda Elish Pitches Perfect Game

The Oregon Ducks faced Portland State in a midweek doubleheader at Jane Sanders Stadium. Oregon jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. The Ducks had 11 hits but struggled in the fifth inning in what could have been a run-rule win.

Maggie Balint threw 7 innings giving up 5 hits and two runs while striking out six. Gwen Svekis worked two walks at the plate as the designated player. Shannon Rhodes and Shaye Bowden led with two hits each pushing Oregon to an 8-2 win over Portland State.

Balint was effective early but began to struggle late. She hung on for the win despite giving up two earned runs in an 8-2 win.

In the second game, the Oregon Ducks went with Miranda Elish and her 0.93 Earned Run Average. Through five innings, Elish had 11 strikeouts, but the Oregon Ducks did not have a run on the board. Oregon entered the bottom of the fifth with two hits.

Lauren Burke hit a double to right field with one out bringing up Jenna Lilley who grounded out to first. Alexis Mack came to the plate with a runner on third. She hit a seeing-eye single up the middle scoring Burke for an RBI and Oregon led 1-0.

In the sixth inning, April Utecht hit a two-run home run giving the Oregon Ducks a 3-0 lead.
