The Oregon Ducks opened the three-game series vs Washington State with back to back wins.

After last week and watching the Oregon Ducks Starting Pitchers find success where the Oregon Offense struggled, it was just a matter of time before the team put together a complete game on both sides. On Friday, it didn’t happen just once, but twice.

Head Coach George Horton watched as the Oregon Ducks were dominant at the plate and on the mound against the Washington State Cougars. WSU and Oregon were both tie at 3-6 in the Pac-12 Conference and Oregon started the climb toward the middle of the Conference with back-to-back wins as part of a doubleheader.

Oregon Starters Matt Mercer and Kenyon Yovan picked up where they left off last weekend on the road combining for 13 innings on the mound with 13 strikeouts between them. Oregon put up two runs in the third inning of Game 1 and Mercer gave up just a run on two hits and threw six innings to earn his fourth win of the season. The Oregon bullpen behind Parker Kelly was stellar. Ryne Nelson closed out Game 1 for his third save of the season.

Game 2 saw the third start for Kenyon Yovan who has shown he is getting stronger in his new Starter Role, despite just playing in three career games. Yovan picked up his third straight win throwing a career-high seven innings with eight strikeouts. Nelson closed out the game for his second straight save and put himself in a position to maintain the Closer role – at least for now.

Oregon had 15 hits through the two games of the doubleheader. The Ducks held Washington State to batting under .200 on Friday.

The Oregon Ducks Offense saw four first-inning hits and took an early 4-0 lead. They never looked back winning 4-2 and sweeping Washington State. The third game of the series was moved because of weather and will be played on Sunday at Noon at PK Park.
