Former Oregon Duck Roman Sorkin Will Play Professionally In Israel
Roman Sorkin signed a Professional Contract to play in the Israeli Super League on Saturday.
Roman Sorkin was a four-year player for Oregon Men’s Basketball. While he did not always have the most minutes on court, he showed his physicality when he had the opportunity. During his Senior Season he had 21 appearances. In the non-conference slate, he was able to find his three-point shot on a regular basis at Matthew Knight Arena.
Sorkin was a part of an NCAA Tournament team that went all the way to the Final Four two seasons ago giving him valuable postseason experience. He opened the 2017-18 season against Coppin State with a career-high game scoring 23 points and pulling down 7 rebounds.
Head Coach Dana Altman said as the year wound down that Sorkin would likely return to Israel to begin his professional career. On Saturday, that dream started to come true. Sorkin was signed by Maccabi Hunter Haifa of the Israeli Super League on a multi-year deal through the 2021 season. Terems were not disclosed.
Sorkin made an early impression in his home country playing on the U16 through U20 Israel National Teams. In 2015 Roman Sorkin shot 52 percent from the field. In the Championship in 2014 he had 25 points and 24 rebounds in a win over Estonia. The move to Oregon helped Sorkin’s development as a basketball player.
It isn’t known if Roman Sorkin will ever head back to the United States to be part of the NBA. Playing professionally in his home country may be enough for the former Oregon Ducks player.
