The Oregon Ducks bullpen allowed nine runs and the Offense struggled against Oregon State on Tuesday night.

Oregon Starter Cullen Kafka gave his best effort holding the Oregon State Offense to just a run in 4 2/3 innings pitched, but the Oregon Offense never got going. Oregon lost the Civil War Series for the season dropping all five games against their in-state rivals.

Oregon State capitalized on the Oregon Ducks mistakes on the mound in the fifth inning. Kafka walked and hit back to back OSU batters. Nick Madrigal hit a double scoring a run and ending Kafka’s day on the mound. The following inning Oregon State broke the game open scoring 10 runs on 9 hits against an inept Oregon Bullpen that went through three pitchers before the inning came to an end.

The Oregon Ducks managed three hits on Offense, two from Gabe Matthews and one from Spencer Steer. Despite the loss, Kafka had his most successful outings this season against Oregon State. In all he pitched 7.1 innings with eight strikeouts. He posted an Earned Run Average of 2.00 this season when facing the Beavers.

On Offense, Matthews had his tenth multi-hit game of the season and Jakob Goldfarb tied the Oregon Career Assist Record held by Austin Grebeck. He has 11 assists on the year. Grebeck was solid at the plate against Oregon State through five games this season hitting .333 with two runs and two RBI’s despite the team losing.

Oregon is 22-24 on the year with three Pac-12 series remaining with Utah, a trip to UCLA and then a visit from Arizona in the regular season finale at PK Park.

The Oregon Ducks welcome the Utah Utes to PK Park. First pitch Friday against Utah is set for 6 pm Pacific Time. Game 2 Saturday is at 2 pm PT and Game 3 is set for Sunday at Noon.
