Kenjon Barner Returns To Carolina Panthers, Will Add Depth At Running Back
Free Agent Running Back Kenjon Barner has found a new home with the Carolina Panthers.
The former Oregon Duck returned to the team that drafted him back in 2013 as a Sixth Round pick. He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles a season later, likely due to the depth that Carolina had at the time. Over the last five seasons another former Oregon Duck, Jonathan Stewart reset the record books for the Panthers before he moved on last month to the Detroit Lions.
Barner has carved out a place in the return game throughout his NFL Career and could see more time at Running Back in 2018 than previously with the departure of Stewart. Carolina placed Fozzy Whitaker on the Injured Reserve list before making the move to add the former Oregon Running Back. He is expected to add depth at the Running Back position for the upcoming season.
Kenyon Barner is now in a position to be an answer at Running Back rather than an additional wheel that rarely sees playing time. Carolina Head Coach Ron Rivera knows he can also use Barner as a return man throughout the season if depth on Offense again becomes an issue.
Barner is coming off the experience of being part of a Super Bowl-winning team with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, and also knows the culture of winning football from his time at the University of Oregon. He could be a key locker room voice for the Panthers in the upcoming season along with providing depth on the football field.
