The Oregon Football Class of 2019 may have the coveted Tight End they were looking and they did not have to go far to find him.

Patrick Herbert, the latest Oregon Commit, is the younger brother of Quarterback Justin Herbert. He took a rather low-key approach to announcing his intent to play for the Oregon Ducks on Sunday night with a simple tweet. There was no ‘top school’ list, not even a hat shuffling in the Sheldon High School Gym in front of friends, family, and fellow students.

After watching Justin Herbert the last two seasons, Patrick is similar in that the pomp and circumstance are not important. Justin is quiet and lets his work show more on the field than talking about it off the field.

A key area of need for Oregon Football moving forward is at the Tight End Position, and the younger Herbert fits the mold.  Oregon was able to stay home and pick up the top prospect in the State of Oregon for the first time in a while after watching top players go elsewhere. Patrick Herbert is listed as a 4-Star Tight End according to 247 Sports.

Hebert chose Oregon over Penn State, Nebraska and several other Pac-12 programs including Cal and Oregon State. With the addition of Herbert, Oregon now has seven players for the Class of 2018 and have moved into the Top 20 in the Recruiting Rankings to take the top spot in the Pac-12 Conference – for now.

With the addition of Patrick Herbert, the Ducks have a Tight End of the future and depending on how the 2018 season plays out, may have the player that could keep Justin Herbert in Eugene for his Senior season. Having two Herbert’s on Offense may be better than one, although the one we have seen over the last two seasons has grown into a pretty good football player.
