Oregon Ducks End Season Dropping Two Of Three vs Arizona
The Oregon Ducks had a bright spot in the rotation in the three-game series against Arizona to close out the season.
Despite losing the two of three against the Wildcats, the Ducks Offense showed positive signs and Kenyon Yovan stepped into the spotlight throwing a complete game two-hitter on Friday night at PK Park.
On Thursday night, Cullen Kafka was tagged with the loss. Oregon gave up five runs in the first four innings. Arizona Catcher Cesar Salazar was trouble for the entire weekend starting with a two-run home run in the top of the third and the Arizona Offense took over from there tacking on two more runs in the inning for a 5-1 lead winning the game 10-2.
Friday saw Kenyon Yovan take the mound for the Oregon Ducks. Yovan has had confidence all season and has worked his way into the Friday Starter position. He leads the team in Quality Starts and put together another one in the final weekend of the season for Oregon.
Yovan threw a complete game, two-hitter and faced the most pressure at the end of the game as he has all season. Arizona State loaded the bases in the Top of the 9th and Yovan was able to persevere for the victory. Matt Mercer saw the mound for the final start of the year on Saturday.
Oregon was able to build an early lead against Arizona, but the Wildcats came back in a big way to put up 11 runs. Yovan played in the field and went 2 for 4 on the afternoon. Mercer allowed four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. He also walked five.
