On Tuesday, the NCAA announced changes that will reverberate through College Basketball.

Right now College Basketball is in a tough spot, with an FBI Investigation as the sport looks to find a way back to integrity and trust for the fans. The move they made should have been done years ago, but better late than never I suppose. The biggest change is to one rule that seems like it has been around forever.

Student-Athletes were able to ‘test the waters’ of the NBA after time in College but were not allowed to return to school ‘if’ they signed with an agent. The rule changed on Tuesday. The new rule, set to go into effect on August 1st 2019 will allow college athletes to sign with an agent and return to school of they go undrafted in the National Basketball Association, but they will have to wait till after the following College Basketball season playing two seasons in College.

Another overhaul has to do with major rule infractions by Programs. The NCAA will bring in two private firms to look at these infractions. NCAA President Mark Emerett said the policy change will be across all sports and also in effect on August 1st 2019. The NCAA will be holding School Officials, including the Coaching Staff more accountable and will be looking for better cooperation with investigators. They will be contractually obligated to report any infraction by their respective program.

The College Basketball Recruiting rules are also changing. Recruits will see their list of Official Visits jump from five to fifteen. A respective recruit can visit a college campus only once per year.

The Initial Change will also allow high school athletes the chance to enter the NBA, by having the option to sign with an agent, which was not allowed in the past. The timing of the announcement blindsided the NBA and NBA Players Association. The move is in hopes to end the corruption in the game that has been playing out over the last two years.
