Byron Marshall Leaves An Impression On The Field vs New England Patriots
Byron Marshall has struggled to find his place in the National Football League but had a breakout game on Thursday night.
The former Oregon Football Running Back went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as a Free Agent. Marshall spent the majority of his first two seasons on the Eagles Practice Squad seeing limited action in a few games. Overall he put under 100 yards on the ground and did not score a touchdown.
Last November, Marshall was signed by the Washington Redskins off of the Philadelphia practice squad and on Thursday not only found the field in the Redskins first NFL Preseason game, but he also found the endzone. The former Oregon Duck had two carries for two yards, but showed he can also be a pass catcher out of the backfield against the New England Patriots Defense. Despite many Starters not seeing much playing time, he also had a catch running 28 yards to the endzone against second and third string Patriots players, which could be seen as impressive.
Byron Marshall has been a player that has been banged up over the last two NFL Seasons at times. He enters 2018 healthy and ready to make an impact for the Washington Redskins. With an impressive showing, he may get his chance with the Redskins Running Back corps taking a hit in the loss to New England.
Thursday night saw Rookie Running Back Derrius Guice tear an ACL on his first play of the game. He is out for the season. Marshall will need to continue to impress the rest of the NFL Preseason, but could find himself a place on the opening day roster. He comes in with enough experience, having been in the NFL for several seasons and has the power and speed to make an impact for the 2018 season if given the opportunity.
Byron Marshall has three more NFL Preseasons games before the Regular season begins on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. Washington hosts the New York Jets on Thursday night, August 16th at 5pm Pacific Time.
