Mark Helfrich Getting Down To Business With Chicago Bears
Former Oregon Football Head Coach Mark Helfrich has found his way to the National Football League and is looking to make a fresh start.
Despite shifting his focus from Saturday to Sunday, Chicago Bears Offensive Coordinator Mark Helfrich is busy installing Matt Nagy’s Offensive scheme for the 2018 season. Helfrich was fired from Oregon following the 2016 season. He spent some time in Eugene before deciding to take the position with Chicago.
Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is entering his second season and Helfrich is the voice in his year most days. With new pieces in Chicago from the scheme to the Wide Receivers, Trubisky will have his hands and head full. He is in the process of getting down the proper techniques and also finding chemistry with his Wide Receivers. Helfrich is happy to see that Trubisky is not throwing interceptions in camp, but also says that his Quarterback and the Offense are trending in the right direction.
Helfrich can easily find comparisons with his new Quarterback and his old one. Justin Herbert was just a Freshman in Helfrich’s final season with the Oregon Ducks. Since his first start against Washington – a game that no one wants to remember, Herbert has become the talk of the Pac-12 this season and is a projected top NFL Draft pick in 2019.
Mitchell Trubisky has a good ball release, but with a new Offense is finding way too many Turnovers in Fall Camp. The hope is to correct some of the errors before the start of the regular season. Practice and repetition along with chemistry building for the entire team will all be key pieces to the puzzle.
Chicago faces the Denver Broncos in Week 3 of the NFL Preseason on Saturday. The 2018 Regular season begins at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, September 9th (5:20pm, PT)
