Oregon Moves Up One Spot in New AP Poll
By Alex Weber
After some expected week one craziness, the AP voters had a lot to think about.
Here’s how Oregon and the 24 other top programs stack up heading into the second week of the season.
Oregon Football’s 58-24 victory over Bowling Green must have been looked on favorably by the Associated Press. So much so, that the esteemed fellowship of media members concluded that the Ducks are no longer the 24th best team in the nation. Instead they are the 23rd. Here’s the official rankings heading into week two, per the Associated Press:
- Alabama
- Clemson
- Georgia
- Ohio State
- Wisconsin
- Oklahoma
- Auburn
- Notre Dame
- Washington
- Stanford
- LSU
- Virginia Tech
- Penn State
- West Virginia
- Michigan State
- TCU
- USC
- Mississippi State
- UCF
- Boise State
- Michigan
- Miami (FL)
- Oregon
- South Carolina
- Florida
There you have it: Oregon is 23rd, sandwiched between Miami (FL), who got their teeth kicked in against LSU, and South Carolina, last week’s leader of the “Others Receiving Votes” category.
The SEC leads the way with 7 teams featured in this week’s Top 25. The Big 10 is second among conferences with 5 teams making the cut. And wouldn’t ya know, the Pac-12 has the third most teams in the Top 25 with four: Washington, Stanford, USC and Oregon.
Fun fact: Utah, another Pac-12 brethren, is now in South Carolina’s old seat as the “Others Receiving Votes” leader. Is there a specific name for this particular team? I feel like there should be. If you all have any suggestions for a name, leave them in the comments section.
The weekly AP (and don’t forget about the Coaches) rankings are always great topic for debate, and provide a perfect platform for one of College Sport’s core values: arguing over absolute stupidity. Any chance CFB fans get to participate in these kind of arguments, they take it. It’s part of what makes the sport great. Hold on, I can’t miss Mr. Nobody’s two minute AP rankings rant on SportsCenter. God, I love those. They always entertain me.
Anyways, here’s the rankings, do with them as you wish.
The now 23rd ranked Oregon Ducks take on Portland State this Saturday at 11am Pacific Time.
