Oregon Football could use Portland State as a key learning experience for younger players.

The Ducks may be 1-0 on the season, but the fast start the team needed last week did not happen. This week against Portland State, it needs to. I expect the usual Starters in the game including Tony Brooks-James and Justin Herbert, but the second half should be filled with new faces of players getting experience on the field against a Vikings team giving up over 10 yards per play. You read that right. PER Play.

Portland State was throttled by Nevada last weekend and come to Eugene as a replacement from Texas A&M, a home and home series that the Aggies decided to back out of. Rather than a potential Top 20 matchup, Oregon hosts and In-State Rivalry against Portland State at Autzen Stadium.

Despite a rough first week, Portland State will come in ready to battle. Many of the recruits are from the State of Oregon, including the local area. It will be up to Oregon to step up and take advantage. The game does not have a betting line.  Oregon Football should take advantage of the new Redshirt Rule.

Through last season, if a player entered the game, his redshirt was gone. The new rule allows student-athletes to play in four games and retain their redshirt season. The Ducks have an Organizational Chart(aka Depth Chart), but I expect of the game is well in hand, Oregon will have a better opportunity to see how Fall Camp treated some players that deserve the chance to see the field at Autzen Stadium perhaps earlier in their career then they expected on Saturday.

One name that comes to mind is Tight End Spencer Webb. With Cam McCormick lost for the year with a broken leg, depth at Tight End could become a concern if another player goes down with an injury. I also expect to see Tyler Shough in at Quarterback. The Freshman had a solid Spring Game and impressed in Fall Camp.
