Oregon Football: Ducks Move Up Again in Newest AP Poll
By Alex Weber
Oregon Football made another move up the AP Rankings with their win over Portland State.
Oregon, for the second of three weeks (call me confident), the Oregon football team dismantled a much much much weaker opponent. This time it was non-division-one in-state foe Portland State, 62-14. With this big win coupled with last week’s victory against Bowling Green, the Ducks have now improved to 2-0 on the 2018 season; and 2-0 in the young tenure of head coach Mario Cristobal.
Here’s where the first two week’s results have Oregon Football rated among the Top 25 teams in the nation right here:
Rankings per the Associated Press
- Alabama
- Clemson
- Georgia
- Ohio State
- Oklahoma
- Wisconsin
- Auburn
- Notre Dame
- Stanford
- Washington
- Penn State
- LSU
- Virginia Tech
- West Virginia
- TCU
- Mississippi State
- Boise State
- Central Florida
- Michigan
- OREGON
- Miami (FL)
- USC
- Arizona State
- Oklahoma State
- Michigan State
Others Receiving Votes: Utah 92, Texas A&M 90, Boston College 45, Houston 32, Maryland 30, Colorado 25, Iowa 23, Kentucky 19, Duke 10, NC State 9, Mississippi 5, Hawaii 5, Washington St. 4, South Florida 3, South Carolina 2, Florida St. 1
So, Oregon lands at number twenty (numero veinte for any of my Spanish speaking friends), three spots higher than last week’s lowly 23. And wouldn’t ya know, our friends over at Utah are once again the leaders of the “Others Receiving Votes” category. What an honor.
Even with Utah’s second straight snubbing, the Associated Press saw fit to award five Pac-12 teams a spot in this week’s rankings, a pretty high number if you ask me.
As for the other conferences, the SEC and Big 10 both tied the Pac-12 in terms of having the most teams ranked (5). As of now, parity across the nation’s power conferences appears to be as high as ever, with all 5 contributing 3-5 squads per. I’d still say the SEC is the strongest conference as of today, considering they have 2 of the top 3 (Alabama and Georgia) and all 5 in the top 16, but the gap between them and the others isn’t as large as usual. This season is ready to provide another wildly entertaining rendition of college football. And Oregon should/could be right in the thick of it based off their play so far.
Oregon Football kicks off their next game this coming Saturday in Autzen Stadium at 2PM Pacific Time, as the the Ducks take on San Jose State.
