Oregon finds itself seven spots lower than a week ago at 19th. With a week until the inaugural College Football Playoff Rankings, the Ducks must earn a victory this weekend at Arizona is they are to have any chance at being a part of them. And yes, Oregon is 100% out of the playoff picture at this point, but we will still have the opportunity to earn a New Year’s Six bowl game appearance if we win out. This one hurts, so let’s get on with my always controversial overrated/underrated segment.

Most Underrated Team

Washington State – With their only loss coming in a close one against USC, Wazzu and Mike Leach have been on quite a tear. Quarterback Gardner Minshew just out-dueled our own elite Justin Herbert as the Cougars handled an ill-prepared Oregon squad. This is one of the hottest teams in the country; and with just one loss, I think they may be one of the 10 most dangerous squads in the country.

Most Overrated Teams

Washington – I know: heavy Pac-12 in this section. But screw it, Washington is way overrated. It’s spectacular really. They have two losses that came against Auburn and Oregon, and their best win is at Utah — which is solid, but not top-15 worthy. Texas A&M sitting behind them has a win over Kentucky and losses only to Clemson and Alabama. You’re gonna have a hard time convincing me the Huskies should be ahead of them with that evidence on the table. I think Browning and co. are overrated and absolutely shouldn’t be ahead of Oregon who beat them.

Texas – Let’s do one of Joe Lunardi’s favorite activities, the blind resume comparison. Here’s two teams:

Team 1: Record: 6-1; Best Win: @8; Loss: vs. unranked

Team 2: Record: 6-1; Best Win: @9; Loss: @16 (OT)

Team one, as I’m sure you’ve guessed, is Texas. Number 6 in the country. The other? Kentucky, ranked 12th. I’d argue Kentucky has a better resume than Texas, but is ranked lower. In fact, Texas really hasn’t done much aside from beating Oklahoma. Yet, the Texas Is Back narrative is always a fun one, and the voters know that. Hate to see it.
