The Oregon Ducks have lost two games this season, but the numbers from College Football Matrix say it could get worse before it gets better.

Oregon Football struggled last week at Washington State and after barely topping Washington in overtime, the Offensive and Defensive numbers reflect a worse Oregon team than last year in several areas according to Dave Bartoo from the College Football Matrix.

Based on the teams that Oregon has played this season, scoring efficiency is decent, but the Oregon Defense is flat out having a rough year, “You have a scoring efficiency of 22 in the country, which is lower than it was last year. Defensively Oregon ranks 76th. The Ducks have played the 123rd easiest schedule based on the teams they have played. Their defense has faced the 127th toughest combined offense.”

This part of the reason why the matchup this week against Arizona is likely so close, “Oregon vs Arizona. College Football Matrix says 27-23. Oregon is still a strong first half team. The Ducks Offensive Efficiency in the first half is the fifth best in the country, second half is 22nd. On the Defensive side, it’s 61(1st Half) and 77(2nd Half).”

If you look at who the Oregon Ducks have played this season, their Offensive numbers do not jump off the page, “Their total scoring efficiency for who they have played is 84th in the country. Only Oregon State and Arizona are worst in the Pac-12.”

The game to watch in the Pac-12 this week is UCLA and Utah. The Utes have a 31-23 win over the Bruins according to the College Football Matrix, but the challenge that Oregon Football faces next week for Homecoming could be a big one with a UCLA team looking to contend in the first season under Chip Kelly after a rough start.

There is one thing to keep in mind, “UCLA has improved tremendously. Their Offensive and Defensive Efficiency is better than Oregon. They have played the single toughest schedule in College Football.”

Oregon Football has not won a game in the Desert against Arizona since the 2011 season
but should get the victory this weekend. Oregon and Arizona kickoff at 7:30 pm Pacific Time on ESPN.
