Oregon Basketball: Ducks Host Nebraska Omaha, King Expected To Debut
Oregon Basketball returns to Matthew Knight Arena looking to snap a two-game losing streak vs Nebraska Omaha.
While a 4-3 record is not something to get excited about this early in the non-conference season, the emergence of Bol Bol and Will Richardson shed some light on Oregon Basketball early on. On Saturday the Ducks host Nebraska Omaha at Matthew Knight Arena and are expected to debut another key piece of the most recent recruiting class is Louis King.
Richardson and King were big name recruits for Head Coach Dana Altman. So far, Oregon has played in two games that did not look much like Oregon Basketball. Poor play has resulted in back to back losses for Oregon Basketball. While the team was down by double digits at Houston, the team did fight and mount a comeback last week but still lost.
It is clear that Payton Pritchard is still working on recovering from a rib injury suffered in practice at the start of the season and Will Richardson has stepped up his play while the Coaching Staff have steadily increased his minutes. He played 32 minutes against Houston and finished with 16 points to go with 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.
Through seven games one player has been ineffective. Transfer Ehab Amin was expected to be a role player on Defense. On the season he is averaging under 4 rebounds per game with 9 steals and 3 blocks. It is clear early that this is one player’s team.
Bol Bol has been beastly. He has 20 blocks on the season, has performed to expectation with multiple double-double performances. He is close to averaging a double-double every game putting up 22 points and 9.6 rebounds. While the team works out chemistry and Altman continues to tweak the lineup, 5-Star Louis King brings a piece of the puzzle that is needed right now.
Nebraska Omaha(3-6) comes to Eugene with two players hitting better than 40 percent from three-point range. Zach Jackson is the player to watch with close to 20 points per game. JT Gibson can also shoot the ball but leads the team in turnovers with 24 on the season.
Both teams are on losing streaks with Nebraska Omaha losing their last three, the Ducks have lost two in a row. Oregon and Nebraska Omaha tipoff at 5 pm Pacific Time Saturday from Matthew Knight Arena.
