While Oregon Football does not face Cal for another month, the Golden Bears can shift the early conference standings with a win at Washington.

The Golden Bears defense entered the season as one of the best in the country. Against UC Davis last week, the team gave up a touchdown early touchdown off a fumbled kickoff and followed with just another 6 points the rest of the way. Cal Quarterback Chase Garbers averaged over 8 yards per play through the air and Running Back Christopher Brown Jr. found 197 yards on the ground averaging over 5 yards per play.

While the Offense is a work in progress, the Cal Defense is clearly the strength of this team for Head Coach Justin Wilcox. The Golden Bears beat Washington last season 12-10 and it was later in the season. This year, it is a week two game of the week in the Pac-12, along with Stanford at USC.

The Washington Huskies have a stronger passing game, at least right now they do. California has strength in their defensive secondary. You don’t have to read too far between the lines to see that the Golden Bears can take advantage if they can get their offense going on the road in a hostile environment on Saturday night.

The Huskies enter as a two-touchdown favorite at home over California. Washington brings a lot of inexperience into the season after losing Quarterback Jake Browning and Running Back Myles Gaskin from last season. The Golden Bears bring players that have already beat Washington from last year and they will look to do it again.

While the Ducks don’t see the Golden Bears for a month, a win for California would reset the Pac-12 Standings. California meets Washington Saturday at 7:30 pm Pacific Time on Fox Sports 1.
