Jim Leavitt joins Florida State Staff as Analyst
Former Oregon Football Defensive Coordinator has found a new position, with his former head coach.
The Florida State Seminoles are not off to a great start this season and the defense is atrocious. One way to remedy that is to bring in an analyst to take a look at what can be improved. Head Coach Willie Taggart has tapped his former Defensive Coordinator Jim Leavitt to join the Seminoles in a limited role as a defensive analyst.
In his first season with Oregon Football with Taggart as Head Coach, Leavitt helped the Ducks Defense regain some momentum and finish as one of the better units in the Pac-12 finishing in the top 50 in the nation. Oregon saw their coverage from their corners go from non-existent to inside the top 30 with simple discipline for their respective position.
Leavitt left Oregon Football on shaky terms. Following the departure of Taggart following his one season with Oregon, he departed for his ‘dream job’ with Florida State and so far it has not been so much a match made in heaven as a mismatch made for a Head Coach who has struggled in his first season with a new team.
For the Seminoles, Leavitt is expected to play a role to assist Defensive Coordinator Harlon Barnett with game planning for the rest of this season. He is expected to be a trusted voice in meetings and he will likely have a Pepsi close by.
FSU has given up over 1000 yards on defense over the first two games, giving back leads in both and finding a way to win last weekend for a 1-1 record on the season.
