While Oregon Football put up numbers on offense, it was the Ducks’ defense that was the story of the game in a 35-3 win over Montana.
Oregon Football won the opening kickoff and elected to start the game with the ball.
Travis Dye would be the first to see the ball on a 21-yard return bringing out Quarterback Justin Herbert and the offense. The opening drive saw Herbert go a perfect 5 for 5 along with a solid dose of Travis Dye. Herbert found Jacob Breeland in the endzone to give Oregon a 6-0 lead.
Montana was able to move the ball on their first drive to their own 41, but a Mase Funa sack ended their first drive of the game. Samuel Akem caught a 26-yard pass before the sack on Dalton Sneed.
Jacob Breeland would add another touchdown before the end of the 1st Quarter to make the lead 14-0.
Oregon saw a pass interference penalty on their first drive of the second quarter that ended in a punt. The Ducks ended the half with a score from Herbert to Johnny Johnson III to make their lead 21-0. For the first half, Herbert was 16 for 21 for 189 yards and 3 touchdowns. Two to Jacob Breeland and one to Johnny Johnson III.
Montana started with the ball in the second half, but an Oregon Interception by Mykael Wright ended the drive as Herbert came back on the field. It took 8 plays for the Ducks to score again. Herbert threw a quick pass to the left side of the endzone to Johnny Johnson III to extend the Ducks lead to 28-0.
Montana added a 25-yard field goal with 18 seconds left in the third quarter. Oregon responded on their next drive with a Herbert pass to Jaylon Redd for a 10-yard touchdown making it 35-3 Ducks.
Freshman Sean Dollars had a chance to show off his speed with a 63 yard run, but the Ducks could not add to their lead as time expired. Oregon won their second straight game and have yet to give up a touchdown at home to an opponent.
The Oregon Defense was solid once again. They held Montana to just 8 yards on the ground in 21 attempts. Thomas Graham Jr. went out with an injury and Freshman Mykael Wright stepped in with three tackles two pass breakups and an interception.
Pac-12 play opens this week. Oregon visits Stanford who lost to UCF on Saturday. The Ducks and Cardinal kickoff at 4 pm Pacific Time Saturday on ESPN.
