Oregon Women’s Basketball: Ducks Top Corban In Pac-12 Tune Up

The Oregon Women’s Basketball team welcomed Corban to Matthew Knight Arena for an exhibition game to close out 2019 and jumped out to an early lead forcing turnovers in a win over Corban.

In the opening minutes, Oregon opened with a 9-0 lead shaking off the holiday rust quickly Satou Sabally had four points for the Ducks early. Corban was 0 for 2 from the floor in the opening two and a half minutes. After the first quarter, Oregon was in complete control.

Midway through the first quarter, Kelly Graves started working his bench and to end the quarter Taylor Chavez hit a layup for a 33-10 lead. Oregon was able to find their way to 10 steals and forced 11 turnovers on the Corban Warriors. The Ducks added 20 points on Corban turnovers in just the first quarter. Sabrina Ionescu had 5 points, 2 rebounds, and 6 assists in the opening 10 minutes of the game.

Oregon extended their lead to 62-30 heading into the locker room at halftime. Satou Sabally and Sabrina Ionescu lead the team with 15 and 11 points respectively. Corban was 10 for 25 from the floor and were being outshot by the Ducks who hit 21 of 40 for 53 percent in the opening to quarters.

Lydia Giomi saw key minutes in the first half and made some important plays when she had the ball. Giomi finished the first half with two points and 5 rebounds. The Ducks also had 25 points of Corban turnovers in the first half.

Ruthy Hebard started heating up to open the second half. After back to back buckets she had 17 points with just over 7 minutes left in the third quarter. Erin Boley had two quick assists on the plays as Corban took their first timeout of the second half.

With two and a half minutes left in the third quarter, Minyon Moore was the lone starter on the floor for the Ducks and Jaz Shelley hit a three pointer followed by a steal and layup by Taylor Chavez to push the lead to 98-37. Minyon Moore hit two free throws to give Oregon 100 points. Corban scored just 7 points in the third quarter vs the Ducks.

In the end, Oregon topped Corban 125-42 and had 62 points off turnovers in the win. The Ducks now prepare for Pac-12 play and open hosting an 11-0 Colorado team next Friday at Matthew Knight Arena. Tip off is set for 7 pm Pacific Time.
