Oregon football has some intense position battles to monitor this spring but three stand out above the rest. What are these battles?

Mario Cristobal and the Oregon Ducks are gearing up for what should be an important spring with plenty to figure out.

Tyler Shough has transferred out, there’s a new defensive coordinator in town and the defensive backfield will be brand new. The Ducks have some questions to answer at key positions if they’re going to successfully defend that conference crown.

These three position battles need to be monitored closely this spring.

3. No. 1 receiver

Am I alone in thinking this is going to be the most underrated position battle this spring? The Ducks have a plethora of talented targets and the depth at receiver may actually rival that of any team in college football. The experience? Well, not so much.

Looking at the roster, there are about 5-6 guys who would be sure starters on most teams this fall, but Oregon is loaded at the position and that just can’t be the case in Eugene.

The role of No. 1 receiver will be heavily contested this spring and I’m intrigued about the idea of figuring out who becomes that go-to target in the offense.

Devon Williams is an early favorite after he led the offense with 286 yards and two touchdowns on 15 catches. He averaged over 19 yards per reception and showed that he could be a serious deep threat.

Jaylon Redd and Johnny Johnson III are the veterans of the group and were second and third on the team in receiving last year, respectively.

Keep an eye on young guys like Mycah Pittman, Kris Hutson, Josh Delgado, Troy Franklin and Dont’e Franklin who could all push for that top spot and could surprise this spring.
