Dana Altman and Oregon basketball have had an eventful offseason thus far.
First, there was the transfer of Chandler Lawson, then the re-opening of Jonathan Lawson’s recruitment, and finally Jalen Terry’s decision to transfer capped it all off.
Plenty of attrition has hit the Ducks with those three guys headed elsewhere and Chris Duarte and Eugene Omoruyi gone. LG Figueroa is still deciding whether he wants to return for one final season and Oregon’s recruiting class is bringing in five-star big man Nathan Bittle as well as Isaac Johnson who committed in 2019 but went on a two-year mission.
The Ducks are bringing plenty of talent in, but they aren’t done yet if they want to remain in the hunt for the Pac-12 title in 2021-22.
A new name has surfaced in terms of the 2021 class as Altman and the Ducks are targeting a four-star former Texas commit.
Tamar Bates has some big programs after him along with Oregon including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Indiana, and Illinois but the Ducks should offer the opportunity to see the court right away with Duarte and Terry gone. He could fit right into that backcourt role early on.
Oregon basketball needs bodies
With all the departures this offseason and only a one-man recruiting class coming in, Oregon just needs bodies and why not go after the No. 56 prospect and 14th-best shooting guard in the entire 2021 class? He could have an immediate impact.
After Shaka Smart left for Marquette this offseason, Bates re-opened his recruitment and the IMG Academy star is looking for a spot where he can have an instant impact.
Oregon seems like the perfect fit here.
