If you’re wondering who the future is at quarterback in Eugene, you’ll have to look no further than Ty Thompson. The true freshman from Gilbert, Ariz., was ranked the No. 39 prospect in the entire 2021 recruiting class and he was also listed as the fourth-best pro-style quarterback, according to 247Sports.

The quarterback “battle” seems to be pretty well in hand right now, at least according to Mario Cristobal, but let’s say Thompson has a big showing in the live scrimmage. What next?

If Thompson breaks out in the spring game and shows that he can ball out against a top defense in the Pac-12, Cristobal will have no choice but to leave the door for the quarterback battle open. He’ll be right on Anthony Brown’s heels and he may even fully pass up Jay Butterfield and Robby Ashford on the depth chart.

Oregon needs its own Tua Tagovailoa or Trevor Lawrence and Thompson might give the Ducks their best chance at that type of impact at the quarterback position.

I mean, just look at his highlight reel. He has a cannon for an arm and is a certified winner.
