OT. No. 7 overall (1st round). 50. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Penei Sewell. 1. player

As a lifelong Lions fan (I know, it’s terrible), I can say without a shadow of a doubt, this was the best possible scenario for Detroit at No. 7 overall. I would have either liked the Lions to take Justin Fields, Ja’Marr Chase, or DeVonta Smith but Sewell was the best player available when their pick came up and he also happened to play a major position of need.

Sewell was the best offensive lineman in this draft class and you could tell by Brad Holmes’ reaction to his selection at No. 7 overall that this was a home run of a pick.

Check out the 1:15 mark of the video below.

Detroit has fumbled draft picks for years, but this one was a great pick and Sewell has a bright future ahead of him at the left tackle position. For a couple of years, he may be playing for a losing franchise, but when Detroit stocks up talent, he’s going to be a premier tackle on a potential playoff team.

Plus, you can’t really mess up a pick when you draft a guy who one anonymous NFL coach called the surefire Hall of Famer in this year’s draft class.

Sewell is going to be a fan favorite in Detroit.
