Oregon Football: Terrance Ferguson ahead of schedule at TE
For years, Oregon’s tight end position has been leaving a lot to be desired. The Ducks have had some talented guys come through the pipeline, but it’s been a while since they’ve had a top NFL draft prospect at the position.
But that might change in the near future with a young freshman named Terrance Ferguson.
Mario Cristobal landed the top recruit from the state of Colorado in the 2021 class and he impressed during the spring game, catching four passes for 60 yards, including a 34-yard reception from Jay Butterfield which showcased a little of his athleticism on an underthrown ball.
Did we mention that this was his first live action that fans got to witness?
Word out of Eugene is that he looked really good all spring and may have made a name for himself on the depth chart behind Spencer and Patrick Herbert. If DJ Johnson returns, the Ducks will had a loaded room, especially with Moliki Matavao as another talented early enrolled freshman on campus.
The spring game proved that Ferguson is ahead of schedule as the most productive tight end from the scrimmage and he can hang at this level.
Oregon football could use a budding star like Ferguson
If Webb and Herbert don’t live up to their potential or suffer injuries in 2021, Ferguson should be the first option at tight end. Even if they are fully healthy and productive, the freshman tight end should get a decent run at the position given he can block as well as he runs routes.
The 6-5, 230-pounder from Littleton, Colo., was the No. 10 tight end in the 2021 class as well as Colorado’s top prospect as a four-star, according to the composite.
Ferguson looked like a threat in the passing game during the spring game as the defense had a tough time containing him and with a semester of experience already, he might end up being the team’s top option by the time it takes the field against Fresno State in the fall.
All aboard the Ferguson hype train which is moving faster than expected.
