Oregon Basketball: Quincy Guerrier solidifies Ducks’ starting 5 for 2021-22
It’s official, Quincy Guerrier is a Duck.
After entering the transfer portal earlier this month, the former Syracuse star chose Oregon over the likes of Memphis, Illinois, and Arizona State on Thursday afternoon which all but solidifies the Ducks’ starting five for 2021-22.
Although Oregon is bringing in a couple of other transfers in Rivaldo Soares and De’Vion Harmon, it needed a small forward and that’s exactly where Guerrier fits in.
Dana Altman recruited Guerrier out of high school in Canada heavily before he chose Syracuse and when he hit the market again a few weeks ago, the head coach jumped at the opportunity to land him.
On Thursday, he made the commitment official.
The announcement comes after a week of speculation regarding his four finalists and I believed all along that Oregon was the best fit for him if he wanted minutes and a chance to win.
Now that he’s committed and the roster is starting to take its final shape, the Ducks truly look like Pac-12 title favorites once again.
Where does Quincy Guerrier fit in the Oregon lineup?
At Syracuse this past season, he started all 28 games at small forward and was strong on the boards as well as on the offensive end of the floor, averaging over 13 points and eight rebounds per game. His jumper could use some work even though it improved from his freshman season, but he’ll fit that LG Figueroa-sized hole at small forward.
I wouldn’t be all that shocked to see him play 30-plus minutes per game for the Ducks next season because of the Figueroa departure and Chandler Lawson transfer.
Oregon is deep at guard and the post but thin at the wing and Guerrier is the perfect fit.
