Oregon Football: 3 breakout candidates on offense for 2021 season
I know I’m not in the minority here when I say that Robby Ashford should be QB1 this fall. The redshirt freshman looked like a star in the spring game and flashed his elite athleticism and escapability for fans to see.
Ashford looked like ‘that dude’ in the spring game compared to Jay Butterfield, Ty Thompson, and Anthony Brown and fans immediately jumped on the bandwagon.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t a big believer that he’d be anything more than a fourth-stringer before spring ball, but after watching the scrimmage and reading quotes about him, I’m all in for him to be the starter over Brown, Butterfield, and the uber-talented Thompson. Before spring began, I wanted the true freshman to win the job and it would still be a good thing for the Ducks if they gave Thompson the nod, but the offense’s ceiling is higher with Ashford running the show.
The two-sport star has incredible athleticism and a strong arm and if he can continue to work on his accuracy, he’s going to be tough for defenses to deal with.
Ashford is my pick to win the starting job and become a household name nationally.
