Fresno State had a decent season in 2020, but the Bulldogs finished the year on a two-game losing streak. They still bring back 18 starters to a roster that finished 17th in total offense and 85th in total defense nationally.
The Bulldogs can put up some points, but you have to keep in mind that they did this against Mountain West opponents. Oregon is the best defense they’ll see in two years.
Jake Haener will be the reason the Bulldogs are even in this game, but the second half will get ugly.
Final Score: Fresno State 17, Oregon 45 (1-0)
This is the game circled on everyone’s schedule in the month of September as this will likely be a battle of top-10 opponents in Columbus. Will College GameDay be there? My money is on yes and this will set the tone for the Ducks’ season. This will tell us just how good this team is or how far away from contending they are.
Ohio State is going to be a top national title contender this season after going 7-1 with a playoff loss to Alabama a year ago. They lose Justin Fields to the NFL, but there’s high hope for CJ Stroud under center.
I think this game will live up to the hype as neither team runs away with a win and Oregon battles until the final ticks come off the clock in a close loss.
Final Score: Oregon 30, Ohio State 34 (1-1)
