Oregon football added one of the top players in the entire 2022 class as four-star athlete Jalil Tucker verbally committed on Aug. 21.
The four-star is ranked the No. 4 athlete and No. 61 overall prospect in the class, according to 247Sports. He becomes the Ducks’ third-best composite player behind only Kelvin Banks and Tetairoa McMillan.
Tucker joins his teammate, four-star cornerback Jahlil Florence in the class as he committed just last week.
After a slow start to the 2022 class, Mario Cristobal has turned up the temperature lately. In fact, the top five recruits in the Ducks’ class have committed since June 28. That’s Banks, McMillan, Tucker, Dave Iuli, and TJ Dudley. It’s been a red-hot summer for Oregon recruiting.
The Ducks’ 2022 class was already on the rise after picking up a commitment from McMillan five days ago and now it’s No. 5 in the composite rankings after being No. 8 before Tucker’s pledge.
Cristobal continues to show just why he was once dubbed the top recruiter in college football as an assistant and now all he has to do is prove he can win with these guys on the field. If he can turn these recruiting victories into more Pac-12 titles and even some playoff berths, he’s going to keep getting recognition as one of the nation’s top coaches.
Oregon football’s class filling up quickly
When the summer kicked off with official visits, Oregon had just eight commitments and none were ranked in the top 200 in the composite. Now, the Ducks are up to 19 and four are ranked in the top 200, and 10 are in the top 250.
Oregon has been killing it on the recruiting trail and it doesn’t look like that’s going to slow down any time soon, but the class is filling up quickly.
With 19 commitments, there’s probably only room for 5-6 more guys, at the most. Time for the staff to be incredibly selective.
